What the plotting room did The plotting room was the battery’s fire-control “nerve centre”, where incoming observations from the OP (and wider Dover Fortress control) were turned into bearing and elevation for the guns and sent to each emplacement by phone/electrical repeaters. Dover batteries such as nearby Fan Bay used electrically-linked pointer systems (“magslip”) so that calculations could be transmitted instantly; Capel’s plotting room fulfilled the same function within this command network.
